About
MyBookLog.Com Has Its Origins In A Tiny Crack Of Ryan Healy’s Brain…
On a normal day in August 2005, Ryan was sitting at his kitchen table when the vision for My Book Log flickered into focus.
Realizing the vision had potential, he quickly scribbled out a page of features that became the master plan for what is now MyBookLog.com. At first, Ryan was a bit discouraged because he wondered how he would ever create a place where fellow book lovers could keep book logs online. You see, he had a big obstacle: He is pretty much inept when it comes to programming and building really cool web sites. (If you have a technical problem, please do not call him.)
Fortunately, Ryan didn’t give up.
As fate would have it, one of Ryan’s good friends happened to be a professional web developer. Ryan approached him and, after much negotiating, Elwood (the web developer) agreed to design and build the site—but only if Ryan promised a significant share of the company.
So Elwood started building the site in his spare time, adding a feature here, a feature there and enjoying himself immensely. The site grew with friends, family and an occasional stranger but mostly it was Elwood just adding books and getting the benefits of the site for himself. Months…then years went by and in the mean time other competitors sites grew and got gobbled up by Amazon. All the while, MyBookLog.com was a fully functional site with several features the bigger sites didn’t have yet.
By now, Elwood felt like MyBookLog.com was his baby. So he asked Ryan to switch places, giving him control and majority ownership of the site because he didn’t want to see all of his hard work end up somewhere else. Ryan agreed and realized there was still much to offer at MyHomeSchool.com and started promoting it again, because you see Ryan is an excellent marketer and was just waiting to be shown that MyBookLog.com was ready.
With a major redesign and rethinking of the way the site should work, version 2.0 was launched as a Beta test.
So that’s how MyBookLog.com began—as a flash of insight and a role-reversal. And just look at what it’s turned into! MyBookLog.com is the best online community for true book lovers in the world.
If you haven’t started your own book log yet, why not start one now? It’s simple, rewarding, and free.
Yours Truly,
Elwood
Developer of MyBookLog.com
